Over looking Wolfeboro Bay

Wolfeboro entrepreneur C.F. Piper constructed this building in1889 adjoining his men's clothing store ( now Bootlegger's) so that he might provide space for Myra Beacham's Ladies Shop (1899-1905).

The building served as either a ladies clothing shop, a dry goods shop or both, until 1980: Nellie L. Horne Women’s Clothing (1905-1937), Dorothy Ann Dry Goods and Ladies Furnishing, (1937-1959), The Ballard Store (1959-1974) and the Ladies Elk Shop (1974-1983).

During the 1920s the original Piper buildings were separated. This building was moved to its present location and a brick building was constructed in between them to house a First National grocery store (now Dive Winnipesaukee).

In 1984 the building was converted into a restaurant named Aw Shucks!, starting a history of dining on the shores of Wolfeboro Bay. Rumors and the Pirates Den followed in the 1990?s, and Garwoods Restaurant and Pub opened in June, 2001. Gregg Roark Jr., Gordon Ling, Chef Kurt Roessler, Sous Chef Chico Hunt, Manager Rob Finneron and the Garwoods staff welcome you to Wolfeboro and hope that you enjoy your lakeside dining experience.
